Mudgeerabah Hockey Club Annual: MUDGEE MOOLA NIGHT

Mudgee Moola 2009 was bigger and better than last year.  Oh boy … my head still hurts!!!  I’ll put it down to ‘Too much fun in one night’ as I can’t possibly put it down to anything else.… I’ll be sure to remember to spread the fun over a few weeks (or even years) as I get older.    Another very successful & enjoyable evening had by all if I do say so myself!  Several James Bonds’ made an appearance, plenty of bow ties, sequined dresses, top hats and frocks - Much different from the attire normally seen in the shed I might add.

The prize pool was again exceptional with over 30 individual prizes on offer.  Our thanks and appreciations go out to all families, businesses, individuals and club community members that donated and or organised prizes.  I would encourage everybody to support these businesses as they have so graciously supported the club.

Many thanks to everyone who was involved in the setting up, selling tickets, organizing the food & drink and of course attending.  These nights take a bit to get going and small contributions from many make it that more enjoyable for all concerned.   I’m pleased to report that we were able to raise $1500 despite the fact that we charged less & provided more.  I can’t remember the last time I paid $25 to have free drink, food and entertainment and walked out the door with a huge blow up Jim beam bottle OR a $500.00 accommodation voucher, OR- of course the Mudgee Undie! (Glad to have em back!  I think they missed me ... going straight to the ‘pool room’ they are) Worth the entry fee alone!

Punters had plenty of variety when it came to gaming including The Mudgee Wheel, Crown & Anchor, Roulette, Two up and the three Mudgee Magic Millions Horse races.  However, the highlight of the evening turned out to be throwing a gold coin at a bottle of Jim Beam…. Go figure?  Hang on now I got it … my neighbor won that bottle and decided to make sure it tasted ok before he left .. I had to partake in one or two as a genuine effort to be a good host…. maybe that’s why my head hurts? …. Nahh.. I’ll still put it down to the fun.   If you missed it then you missed out!  Oh well, better luck next year!

MUDGEE IDOL 2009 - Won by Todd McGuire

Mudgee Idol (SingStar) has been run and won this year by Todd McGuire (again).  It what was described by all in attendance as an epic battle between the reigning champion Todd McGuire and the challenger Corey Tones.  Both players had chances in the final with McGuire eventually overcoming his young opponent with a skillful display by the old stager.  With a random song selection for the final being Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" both players murdered the classic at times with Tones taking an early lead.  McGuire held his nerve to work his way back into the contest and over run the challenger with superior pitch and tone at the end.  Many believe that Tones running out of Beer prior to the final could have made the difference, but he refused the blame his tools and took the loss with great grace.  McGuire on the other hand continued to boast about his win for hours after the win.  Could also be heard the following day talking it up.

All in all a great night had by all (again).  Big thanks to Todd & Terri McGuire for their hospitality.

MUDGEE MOOLA NIGHT 2008 - Click Here for pictures

Hello everyone, Mudgeeraba Hockey Club has just held the inaugural Mudgee Moola night on Saturday night the 9th August at the GCHA clubhouse. It was a funny money gambling night, our clubs major fundraiser for the season that included Black Jack, Crowns, Two up, the Mudgee Wheel and the feature event - the "Mudgee Magic Millions" - 2 horse races with plenty of crowd participation! The evening concluded with a blind auction with plenty of great prizes bid for and won.

A great night was had by all with around 70 people in attendance, and it was fantastic to utilize the new Gold Coast Hockey's clubhouse.

There were many people involved in making this evening a success.

Thank you to all those who donated prizes and a huge thanks to our key organizer Todd Maguire, along with Mel & Pete for all their assistance, TJ supplying our sound for the night,  Heather D and Shaneen as cashiers, Heather B on the door, the div 3 girls for all the food preparation etc and all the boys who helped set up the games. A small number of prizes were kept to be raffled off during the next few weeks and at junior and senior presentation night, to be drawn at end of senior presentation night.

It is events like this that really bring the club spirit out in all of us and creates an opportunity to be a part of such a fun family club.

Thank you to all the came along on the night, hope you all had as much fun as I did, and let's do it again in 2009!

Regards,
Heather Gasmier
President MHC
